Meet Pastor Scott

The Rev. Scott Fritz has served in a dual capacity as the Executive Director of New City Parish and as Pastor of Chapel of Peace Lutheran Church in Inglewood. New City Parish is a coalition of eight Lutheran congregations formed in the aftermath of the 1992 Civil Unrest in Los Angeles and Chapel of Peace one of its member congregations.

Rev. Fritz’s work over the past 10 years at New City Parish & Chapel of Peace has included organizing and fundraising for food pantries and community meal programs, developing and supporting educational & arts programs for at-risk youth, and enhancing urban and multicultural training opportunities and internships programs in Los Angeles through NCP’s Urban Training Center. Rev. Fritz created a micro-lending program that has helped to create and support small businesses in South Los Angeles. In addition, Rev. Fritz has participated in Faith-Rooted Community Organizing and faith-rooted advocacy work including the New Sanctuary Movement, immigration reform, and workers issues in the area around LAX.

Originally from Eastern Pennsylvania, Rev. Fritz earned his Masters of Divinity from Vanderbilt Divinity School in Nashville, Tennessee before completing his “Lutheran Year” requirements at the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago.

It was in Chicago where he met his wife Joy (Logan) Fritz who was studying economics at the University of Chicago. Joy is a Southern California native who returned to Southern California following graduation and brought Scott back with her. Scott and Joy have been married for 10 years and they have two boys, Scotty (6 years) and Jonathan (3 years).

Rev. Fritz enjoys spending time with his family as well as both playing and watching baseball, reading, and listening to and playing music. Last year he taught himself how to play the guitar and is looking forward to learning other string instruments.
